Use the AI Website Builder on WordPress.com to create a fully designed website in minutes—without coding, templates, or technical skills. This guide will show you how to create your website with AI.
This feature is available to new sites with the WordPress.com Premium and Business plans. You can try it for free (up to 30 prompts) and upgrade to launch the website.

The AI Website Builder will guide you through the following process:
- Describe your website: We’ll ask you a few questions to understand what kind of website you want to create.
- Watch AI build the site: Submit your answers, and you’ll see your website built with a custom layout, suggested images & content, and pre-filled sections based on your industry or goals.
- Customize your site: With the foundation of the site built, you can then click on any section and prompt the AI to make changes to colors, text, sections, and layouts. You can submit up to 30 prompts for free and purchase a plan for unlimited prompts.
Follow these steps to create a new website with AI:
- Visit the following page: https://wordpress.com/ai-website-builder/
- In the box provided, describe your website with as many details as possible in your first prompt—the more information you provide, the better:
- Tell us if you want a portfolio site, a blog, a business website, or something else.
- Include your desired site name if you know it.
- Describe the style you’re going for: fun, friendly, chic, minimalist, elegant, or any other adjectives that come to mind.
- Describe the kind of content you will publish on the site.
- Submit your answer, and then log in or sign up to WordPress.com when prompted.
- It may then ask you for a few further details to clarify your needs. Continue the conversation until it’s ready to start building.
- Watch as AI builds your website in just a few seconds.
- It will ask you to make the following choices (choose your favorite for now—you can still edit later):
- Pick a layout: Choose the overall structure of how the content is organized on the homepage.
- Pick your colors: Choose from the recommended color palette to complement your site’s design.
- Pick your font pair: Select from the suggested font pairings for headings and regular text.
With your site created, you can continue to refine it in conversation with the AI tool that is available by clicking the four-pointed star icon:
Ask it anything and see what happens! Here are some examples of things you can ask the AI to do:
- Add a social media icon to the header or footer.
- Change the colors of specific elements or sections.
- Add, change, or remove menu items.
- Move elements or sections to different places.
To make changes to specific sections or elements, click on that section or element with your mouse before submitting your prompt:
Save your progress by clicking on the “Save” button in the upper right corner:
If you navigated away from the AI Website Builder, you can return to it anytime from your dashboard by going to Appearance → Editor from your site’s dashboard.
You can also make changes manually without AI using the regular tools in the Site Editor.
Upon creation, your new website will be in Coming Soon mode. This means it is accessible only to you, while members of the public will see a “Coming Soon” message.
When you’re ready to make the website public, you can click the “Launch” button in the upper-right corner of the editor:
The new website will be just like any other WordPress website, so you can add a domain, publish a blog post, connect to Google Analytics, and anything else you may need from your website.
The AI website builder can create blogs, portfolios, and service-based websites. Ecommerce functionality and integrations cannot currently be built with AI, but you can add this manually after creating the site. We’re working on expanding the AI Website Builder capabilities.
