As some of you have already noticed, we rolled out a significant update to our user interface over the weekend!
The updated interface is the latest release in a larger project to bring the experience on WordPress.com much closer to a “core” WordPress experience. You’ll have already seen big changes to our navigation and settings experience recently, and this interface update is an extension of that work.
This is just the beginning of a gradual process that will continue over the next few months as we continue to create a more unified and familiar experience across our products.
The times are a-changin’
Over the years, we’ve maintained a custom interface for logged-in WordPress.com users known as “Calypso” in addition to supporting the standard wp-admin WordPress interface. While Calypso served our users well for a while, it was developed for a different era of WordPress.com.

You’ve probably noticed how much time and effort we’ve poured into enhancing the experience of hosting a website on WordPress.com recently. From new developer tools to features that help you speed up your site, there’s never been a better time to host your sites on WordPress.com.
Given these enhancements, supporting two different interfaces—Calypso and the standard wp-admin interface—has become increasingly challenging. It meant duplicating efforts, diverging from standard WordPress advancements, and creating unnecessary complexity for our users.
By transitioning all WordPress.com users to the standard wp-admin WordPress interface, we aim to:
- Offer Familiarity: Many of you use other WordPress products and services. With this change, you’ll enjoy a consistent and intuitive experience no matter where you WordPress.
- Improve Support: This update allows you to take full advantage of WordPress resources. You can now seamlessly follow external guides and tutorials and benefit from a wealth of existing documentation.
- Innovate into the Future: Our team can now dedicate more time delivering innovative tools and enhancements rather than maintaining a separate, second user interface.
We understand that change can take some getting used to, but we’re confident this update will make your WordPress.com experience better than ever. Our support docs and team are here to assist with any questions or feedback you might have.
If you’re not already building, blogging, or running a business with us, we’d love to have you! Check out our WordPress hosting plans and request a free migration today.
To me, it looks overcrowded and cluttered. The change was unnecessary. Just my feedback.
I have to say I do not find the change to the style of the posts layout helpful. It is akin to someone coming in and changing the look of one’s filing system without discussing it first. I would not recommend WordPress to others because of this interference in my use of WordPress. I need consistency and familiarity, not so-called improvements.
As a long time WordPress blogger, I have one request. Please do not delete the Classic Editor. It is a simple, effective tool that serves the needs of many. With so many people reading blogs on a feed reader, the complex tools of the Block Editor are not seen or appreciated.
As Steve Jobs once said, “Simple can be harder than complex: you have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple.”
Hi!
While we encourage everyone to try the Block Editor (it improved so much over the years!), we currently don’t have plans to remove the Classic Editor on WordPress.com.
I’m sorry, but I found Calypso more efficient. It showed post views, likes, and number of comments all in one place, with details and actions readily accessible. Now I need to scramble around to see the number of views, and visiting bloggers who liked a post is difficult.
The problem is A. Calypso was a lot nicer than the old WP-Admin interface B. Scheduling social media shares is no longer possible with the WP-Admin interface, totally degrading what was a previously a great experience. This feature should have been noticed and fixed when testing the interface…
Hi!
The missing scheduling social media shares feature was indeed noticed, and we are working to bring it over to wp-admin.
When I copy a post to create a new post, as I have been doing since forever, it now returns the title to the original. I’ve found if I save it with the wrong (old) title and shut down WordPress, when I go back in it has corrected to the new title. Not such a great update, IMHO.
Hi!
This change doesn’t directly affect the Copy Post functionality, but the issue with the post title is indeed happening. We are looking into it.
Yes! This has been driving me NUTS!!!
Agreed, same here. Extremely annoying. We pay to blog and this is what we get. It is unacceptable.
The new ‘improvement’s are yet another pain. For the love of all that’s holy, please stop. Just stop. More time spent on stupid stuff like clicking multiple times in order to leave a comment. I wish you guys would stop ‘fixing’ things that weren’t broken. I’m leaning toward leaving the blogging world. Paying for the blog is one thing, it’s entirely another when aggravation is thrown in as if it were some kind of bonus. It’s not. 😬
P.S. Arbitrarily switching Classic editor users to Block was like pouring salt in a wound. I’ve tried the Block editor a couple of times and hated it and had to switch back. It’s a colossal pain and time waster. What would normally take 15-30 minutes to write a post takes a couple of hours. Time I don’t have to waste.
Hear, hear.
Oh, good. I’m glad I saw this. I really dislike all the changes. The home post interface is terrible. It’s confusing throwing everything together and constantly having to go to “drafts” “published” and not sticking to one area, while I’m working. The posts that I “copy” won’t save the new title, until I exit and open it back up, very inconvenient. Also, my Instagram photo feed is now gone from my actual blog website. I can no longer add that widget unless I have a professional Instagram account?? You do know that most bloggers are not “professionals” and it’s a hobby. Lastly, I can no longer copy my post link, without going through extra steps and looking at my actual blog page. I can’t do it right from the post, like I used to. That’s a huge disservice.
I agree with all of the above. You may be saving yourselves work, but making more work for us bloggers. Isn’t that what we are paying you for?
Well said.
How does it affect jetpack?
Hi!
This change does not affect the Jetpack plugin directly. However, some Jetpack features on WordPress.com will be reorganized to make the experience consistent across our platforms.
Sometimes I wish WP would just leave the site alone. “If it ain’t broke, don’t ‘fix’ it!”😏
Amen. And double amen. I’ve been here more than ten years, and the unnecesary changes just keep a’comin.
Wow,
I have just had a discussion with a fellow blogger regarding word press changes & used exactly the same quote 😉
Seriously, this block editing is crap.
Yeah, the Classic was better for sure, but now they won’t even support it.
The only thing that never changes is WP keeps changing.😏
Hi!
We currently don’t have plans to remove the Classic Editor on WordPress.com.
That is a surprise to me, because a Happiness Engineer told me WP was phasing it out with less support. Currently, if I try to use it on my mobile, there are serious problems, and on my mobile I can’t even see visuals from previous blogs that were posted in Classic. I’ll check on a tablet later today.
The Classic Editor is not recommended, but still available.
The block editors do not allow selection of colors for highlights beyond a selection of 10 colors. Justification and sizing of picture inserts is more difficult, and now in Classic, once a picture is sized and placed, one cannot move it or resize it anymore. In Blocks there is no Special Character pop-up. And the various “Paragraph” options on the classic pull-down are not available in Blocks.
Most of all, Classic is very difficult, if not impossible, to use on a mobile phone. Previous posts in Classic will not display photos on a phone.
I’ve learned to use Blocks as well as i can, but Classic was much better and easier to use.
Definitely prefer Calypso…some bloggers actually do this just for enjoyment and adding unnecessary features that can be found elsewhere is soooo annoying.
Overall I like the changes, although I don’t really see a need to identify the author of each post since, for most blogs, there is only one author. Also, it would be nice if the list of published blogs was not cluttered with drafts. Yes, I know you can delete them, but I want to keep them, but in a separate location.
Hi!
You can toggle most of the columns of the Posts (Pages, etc.) lists with the Screen Options functionality located in the top-right corner of the screen.
You can also filter the list and only display Published posts with the quick link located just below the screen title.
There are also several blogs, where there are different writers, who should be recognised and/or given honours.
As a WP blogger who is not techno-savvy, I find each new update very challenging and find ways to work around the problem. For example, after an update some time back, I have to publish my posts without a preview. I hope for the best and make necessary edits after publication. With this new interface, I can only “like” a post in my Reader Feed.
The preview is still there on the top right. Hover over the icons to choose the one you need.
Thanks very much, Sue.
agree with C.A.Post below – I can’t even edit mistakes in my own comments now
I agree with all the other comments. I’m a blogger. I’m not a techie. You have just blindsided me with a new layout I didn’t ask for. I’ve rolled with the punches on WordPress for more than a decade. Each “improvement” has been painful and time-consuming. Just because something makes sense to a software designer doesn’t make it good for users. Maybe your team is happy but your customers… not so much.
Well said. Changes to suit the staff not the customer.
the one thing that I would want WordPress to be much better at is what we used to call wysiwig. I have never gotten used to being crammed into a template or theme. I want to be able to put what I want where I want it on the page. I don’t want to have to jump through hoops to change font style or size. Highlighting and making the selection as if it were in Word is the way to go and I always loved front page because it was seamless to how Microsoft products work. I don’t create and work on websites much now because of this whereas I used to do it all the time in the late 90s and early 00s. If I’m missing something because of intention please let me know how to make such changes in a web page.
The image on the right interface – has been around for a decade or more. Sadly, it hasn’t aged well. The only real good thing about that interface, was mass tag editing. The left image interface really needed some tweaks like being able to mass edit tags. Otherwise, I didn’t mind it.
That is so Cool
Just another tech thing to confuse me and make me not want to use it!
I don’t care for the new interface, especially how the Comments display. Too much clutter in my opinion and now instead of my reply going up to the top, it is next to the comment. You have to pay attention you don’t respond to yourself (and I’m not a newbie here – I started by blog in 2013). Why can we no longer “like” in the Comments section? I have to go over to the Notifications area to “like” a post after I have commented in the Comments area, so having two tabs open for WordPress.
While I realize I could go to the Notifications area to reply to Comments, I like to do my replies to Comments on my own blog first, then address replies from others on what I commented on for their blogs afterward and sorting through on the Notifications side takes forever and I do’t have hundreds of commenters. And “like” does not work half the time in the Notifications area. In order to “like” something, I “like”, then press “Unread” at the top and after I go back and more than half the time the “like” is gone. I am using Windows 11 and this happened in Windows 10 and Windows 7 as well. This is just my two cents worth.
Hi!
You can declutter the lists (including Comments) on your site with the Screen Options button located in the top-right corner of the screen.
Hi Jacopo – Thank you for this tip. I compared your screen options to my screen options and they do not look the same at all. I left two tabs open so I could compare them better. Any other suggestions on how to simplify the Comments display? I am using the Block Editor and have from the outset or shortly thereafter.
Each section has different columns, and some sites might have additional columns and details.
You could try toggling some of them on and off, and see what feels more comfortable.
Okay, I will try again – sometimes I am afraid to mess with something in case I make it worse. I also noticed in the last week, that when you insert an image (from your computer) into a blog post, you cannot make it bigger, just smaller. As a general rule, in my twice-weekly posts, I like to make the featured image a little bigger than the rest of the photos. I inserted it, then dragged it a little to enlarge it. I can’t do that now. So I decided to just make the image bigger on the computer and try again and it was the same size as before. But we can make them smaller that what we insert? Is there something I am doing wrong?
It would be nice to have the like button again underneath the articles, so that people could give a thumb up or incouragement again, without having to write a comment.
Over the years you have removed the ability to link to other WordPress websites with similar content thereby depriving users of a community. Now you have made it impossible to put the most recent post at the top. How can your changes be an improvement?
Sorry but this upgrade has made WP difficult to navigate. HTML now in comments edit, unable to schedule posts or embed links to text, all of these simple tasks are now either unavailable or difficult to find. The formatting option bar is truncated and half-hidden so impossible to link texts, or align picture posts. Does the format upgrade recognise the different display requirements for desktops, tablets and phones?
I also want to add that I realize I could do replies in Reader when I do a post because the “like” does stay, but I am just accustomed to doing it the other way I mentioned in my earlier post.
I found the post page easier to follow before. Having the drafts and scheduled posts tangled up with punished posts doesn’t make things clear.
The same with the comments I have issues with. Having to get people I have been interacting with for years out of the trash folder was frustrating before. Now they go to the pending folder for approval adding in an unnecessary step.I also have to refresh my site all the time to get the recent comments whereas they were always current before.
Also copy a post has weird issues with the header. I host a number of photo challenges so use the copy post function quite a bit.
On a positive, I like block editor although I don’t use all of the functions.
I agree with you about the post title after copying a post .As soon as I edit the title it reverts back to the original. I have a templates that I copy and I’m having the same problem as you.
I found that if I do the complete post, save and then refresh the page it sometimes reverts to what I want. Good thing is you don’t lose content if the header refuses to co-operate
It seems to be okay now that the snagging team have been in! 😂
same here with the post title changing back when you copy posts – I always use a default mini-post and copy that to make a new one
It takes a bit to save doesn’t it 🙄
*published posts not punished pots 🙄
I was perfectly happy with the way WordPress operated. I found it intuitive and easy. Yes, even the much maligned Block Editor.
I am, however, concerned about the comments. Before, when I clicked on a comment, I had a box with the comment, and buttons to ‘like’ and ‘reply.’ (I think there was a ‘trash’ button, but I’m not sure.)
Now, I get a window with the comment and an ‘edit’ button. Why would I want to edit someone’s comment (and should I)? Beneath that I can choose ‘accept’, ‘pending’, or ‘trash’. There is no possibility of a ‘like’. It isn’t obvious how to reply to the comments, either. Previously, I clicked on ‘reply’ and got a box to write in.
What is of most concern is that the commenter’s email and website are also displayed. Someone said that their IP address might also be displayed. Now, I haven’t been asked if I want my email address to be displayed, even if it is only to the person whose blog I’m commenting on. I’ve not heard anyone saying they’ve been asked, either.
This seems to me to be a privacy issue, and I suggest WordPress deals with it asap.
And I don’t like this display, quite apart from the issues I mentioned.
Hi!
While the visuals changed and some actions have changed location, the updated Comments dashboard maintains the same functionalities as before. You can read more about it on our documentation.
Commenter’s email and IP address were already disclosed with the site’s owner before these changes.
I’m not talking about how comments and replies look on the website, but what appears when I go to a comment directly from an email telling me I received one.
I created a separate e-mail address to use exclusively for WordPress. I would advise any blogger concerned about privacy to do this. Apart from anything else, I wouldn’t want WP bumph jumbled up with my personal emails.
I’m confused. So much to learn and unlearn;(
It’s good that you let us know what was happening. I will miss the old Calypso UI, because it had so many great features. I will miss the “upload from a url” when you’re uploading a photo and the UI overall especially. Still, I’m leaving the blogging world behind unfortunately. But I’ll miss it nonetheless.
There used to be 2 ways to display posts: default and classic. It just seems you’ve eliminated the default option and kept the classic option. I’ve used the classic because it made it easier to search for posts by date or category. So going with that alone is fine. But this “new” classic should show views as well as likes and let you sort by both likes and views. The stats feature is fine if you want to dig deep but too cumbersome to use regularly.
I’m sorry, but I do not like the changes, most of all because of the ‘cluttered’ posts page. I feel like it’s too persnickety, like I’m going to break something if I use it. I liked how I could click the dotted lines on the side of the picture and perform all the tasks I wanted, edit, copy, etc.
Also, the stats page is now junk. It used to show the last 30 days by default, and I could click into a bar on the graph and see what posts were read on the same page. It wouldn’t go to a second screen for that day’s reads, but stay on the same 30-day page and I could click around without ever leaving the page. Very quick and un-time consuming. Now I’m wrestling with it all. Every time I refresh, it jumps back to the last seven days or even Today, too.
I’m not new to computers, but WordPress used to be a lot easier and a lot more fun and a whole lot less ‘persnickety.’
Agreed. And yes, stats page is very poor now. WordPress have messed up something that worked fine. It is like having someone go in to one’s filing cabinet and rearrange things without notice or consultation.
Hi!
We’ve made some recent improvements to the way date ranges and navigation work on Jetpack Stats. We’ll take a look and see if we can improve the usability of these changes further.
Thank you. It’ll never be the same again, I know, but when you already had a good recipe making more improvements is just going to ruin the biscuits further. Why can’t you just put the stats page back the way it was? That was my joy in the morning. To get up and see my stats easily and without multiple clicks.
All 30 days used to show each time without a drop down box. Click the bar for any particular day. The ‘read’ posts showed up below. Click another bar, and so forth. All of this without having to go to another page (ugh!), or use the back button, or repeat the process for every bar. Now it’s click, back, click, back, etc. Please go back to the way it was. Just one click. No second page. No ‘back.’ Thanks.
P.S. my friend in Oklahoma, who has a blog on WordPress too, can’t abide the new stats page, either.
WordPress.com already gave us the ability to choose our preferred Admin Interface Style. Couldn’t we just leave it at that?
true, I prefer the admin mode code look. This change was done many years ago, and we were asked which we wanted and I stay with the admin backend to create, and then see the displayed post how they wanted to be.
The original interface for years and years on WPcom was WP Admin (Classic) before Calypso (Default) arrived. That caused such an upheaval with site owners that the View tab was eventually introduced (after some experimentation). We finally got used to it and now it’s changing again.
What we really need is stability in our tools so we can write on our sites, not learn how to navigate our dashboards yet again.
I’ve had my blog since 2011 so I’ve seen many changes. These changes have made me crazy, it’s far too busy. It felt like going back in time. I spent hours trying to figure out how to get it back to “normal”. I’m all for change when it’s productive (i.e. block editor) I wasn’t happy about it (no one likes change) but in the end it is more effective once you get used to it. If you don’t have time to become familiar with it’, then it’s a different story. The worst part is the title/save/changes the title back. This is making me crazy. **F*I*X**One way I found to fix (sometimes it takes 2-3 tries) is enter the title name of the post, save then it reverts back, go to posts/find the post you were working on, open it and the title will be there from then on…***
I’m having a problem with the title change-back issue too – I tend to have a default mini-post which I just copy to write a new one – that was it’s set up how I want it. And it keeps defaulting to the original heading – I’m surprised you can have 2 posts with the same heading to be honest.
Hi!
We have identified the cause of the issue that’s causing the title to revert on save, and we are working on a fix.
Its very frustrating to look through and respond to comments from my dashboard now. The new set up is very cluttered and small, which makes it less enjoyable to read through them. I can’t like comments and its harder to tell if a comment is pending approval from the main inbox. I really preferred the previous dashboard style…
I don’t mind the new look, but we are missing the schedule to social media thing…. you know where you can schedule a post to go out to your social media. There used to be a calendar for that, and you plugged in whatever message you wanted to go out, and then you select all the days that you want it to post, and at what time. This was extremely useful for not only sharing posts, but also keeping social media alive. Please bring that back. Also the thing where it is changing post titles back to old titles when copying posts is driving me nuts. Please fix that.
Hi!
We are working to bring the missing scheduling social media shares feature over to the new interface.
Hallo!
We just wanted to contact technical support because we were surprised by the change. The Calipso interface was much better for daily work. The wp-admin interface is much more risky, because you can change important things unintentionally. And this especially when the users, as in the case of a magazine like Desbandada, are many and, except for the two editors, everyone must have restricted access to the website. Doesn’t Calypso exist anymore? We would like to use that interface again.
Best,
Claudia Baricco
I tried the “speed up your site” feature. Not too much different than PageSpeed Insights, just with a little more detail. Seems my site’s biggest issue is slow to load in mobile due to lazy loading of my above-the-fold image on my home page. Good to know expect a fix requires either a plugin (and a Business plan) or messing with the php file. Neither the costly business plan or taking a chance on the php is going to happen. So, there’s really no “fix” here unless I upgrade to first class. Seems I’m consigned to slow loading in economy class.
I don’t mind the changes. I got a little confused with the Reader but found my way to where I wanted to be. The Title error on copying a post seems to have been fixed, so thank you.
Oh, I noticed the change alright. All my workflows from the past five years are out the window. Many features I’ve relied on are buried elsewhere if they still exist, and if they do, they are many more clicks away than they used to be.
The “new” interface is the clunky one I used when first getting involved in a WordPress site almost eight years ago, so I’m coughing a bit on the word “innovation.” The newer Calypso view was smooth, uncluttered, intuitive, attractive, and very pleasant to use, the complete opposite of what is in place now. Calypso styling still exists elsewhere in the interface, and this discrepancy makes the “standard” view on Posts and Pages look even more unattractive and unprofessional.
Overall, the change has made my WP blogging experience far less enjoyable. Most of the comments on this post resonate for me.
If you’re serious about the last paragraph in your post, attracting new bloggers, you’re running the wrong interface (and not to mention retaining the customer base you have!). Hopefully WP will take note of the overwhelmingly negative response to this sudden, unannounced and unwelcome update. I’ve submitted lengthy comments through a support ticket, and hope to hear some kind of positive outcomes after taking considerable time to give clear and thorough feedback to the happiness engineers I was connected with.
I’m disappointed that I can no longer stretch photos to make them the size I want. It’s back to the three sizes: small, medium, and large. I thoroughly enjoy Classic Editor, but the photo sizes are the pits.
Any advice about what to do when you paid plan has been stolen and taken over by someone else? I’ve started the ‘recovery process’ and am still waiting to hear back. I can’t get hold of anyone on live chat because Wapu won’t put me through. Do we have to pay extra to get a secure site/help?
Hi!
Please check out the Recover Your Account support page which guides you through the recovery process.
I don’t like it. Can I move back to the old list? I liked that better. Also, I hate the STATS totally.
I’m with you, Davida. I thought I had messed up my settings and finally realized that it was not me, but the site. I hate the stats format, too.
I am not happy. You changed my font from Misty Lake to something else. The font was part of my patented name and image. And you changed the color from Blue to red and I can’t change it back. I tried all your ’new tools’ and nothing clicked or worked. You really stepped over the line when you started messing with fonts and colors. And none of the damn tools worked to change things. And you don’t seem to understand. Some of us are freaking done with change and learning new stuff. We just want we got to work so we don’t have to think and spend time learning new sh*t but just using and apply what we already know. There is too much to think about some things have to remain constant and reliable so we can just do the creativity part on content. No I am not happy.

Hi!
This change does not affect the visual features used by your site. You can check out our support pages to read more about how to design your site.
So in 10 years of same WP back-end design, you call it “Innovate into the Future” by updating it from technically more modern look to old one.
I have black drop down boxes that seem ‘corrupted in my way… how can I fix this?????
I also have black boxes on my admin page and they are obscuring what I need to see. I also would like to know how to fix this.
Are you still seeing this black drop down? Where exactly is it?
If you still see it, could you take a screenshot, upload it to your site, and share a link?
Thanks!
I like the interface, but I’m new, so I didn’t have the chance to see the old one. I’m not at all surprised that other users have mixed feelings. When someone uses something for a long time, they get used to it, and any change, even if it’s for the better, might not necessarily feel right.
I am actually not a fan of the change. I liked the previous look as it was easy to find things I needed without having to go look for it. I am not a seasoned WordPress user so this bothers me.
I own a domain with wordpress that I want to add a basic site to. I have other wordpress sites that I own but I need to learn if it is more cost effective to use one of those or buy a new basic wp site and connect it to the wp domain I own. Please have someone contact me.

Whenever I hear about these updates and “improvements” – or more realistically just see them as they generally seem to simply pop up uninvited when I log in to my blog, and it’s just as unwelcome as seeing my breakfast from earlier regurgitated.
I’ve been using WP for maybe 15 years and I chose it back then because it was easy to use from my perspective, attractive to visit for readers and easy for everyone to interact and comment. With each successive “improvement” the experience has been degraded. I have long time subscribers and readers contacting me to say that the hurdles thrown up before them and the general hassle of trying to leave a comment has led to them no longer doing so. I find this appalling really, much of the attraction of the platform was the opportunity it afforded for trouble-free interaction.
If the classic editor function is removed, then that will be it. My plan will be cancelled and I’ll be moving on. The block editor is inferior, unpopular and wholly unnecessary.
As others have said here, please stop these endless updates that add nothing whatsoever to the experience for either owners or visitors and subscribers.
I love wordpress. Coz i just start creating a web development, for i am studying IT here in the Philippines. Thank you so much to all the crew of the WordPress.com for letting me understand how the webdev runs in a free domain.. McMauladG

I’ve been on WordPress blogging since 2014. These changes make life here so much more difficult. Calypso showed post views, likes, and number of comments all in one place, with details and actions easily accessible. Now, I scramble around to see the number of views, and visiting bloggers who liked a post is difficult.
I’m noticing that the stat button is sometimes not working / not loading up the correct post stats. And doesn’t show the same info that on the stats page.
It’s difficult for us to help here within the comments section. Please contact us here for closer look, thanks! https://wordpress.com/help/contact
This change is not it! Calypso is much more better designed, user friendly and so easy accessible with information and layout.
The Calypso is a more modern look, going back to essentially the old “classic” look which was a pain to use.
The link to comments lands somewhere in the middle of the blogtext. Please repair this.
Please contact us here and we’re happy to take a closer look, thanks! https://wordpress.com/help/contact
I do not like this change at all D: It feels very unnecessary and feels like a step backward instead of a step forward. The old style was perfect and this one is clunky, not nice to look at, and makes me not even want to upload anything new. Bad move, in my opinion.
As a long time WordPress blogger, like many older WP users, I have one Big request.
Please do not delete the Classic Editor. It is a simple, effective tool that serves the needs of many and gives us much more freedom, all those other webservices do not offer with their awful block blogeditors.
The old editor system is the best the net has to offer and a very good reason to chose for WordPress.
Honestly folks, I’ve been here for all the ups and downs over nearly 2 decades. This dashboard change might serve Automattic’s purposes, but frankly WordPress.com is a different product than WP with a different clientele.
The Default view that you introduced here some 10 years ago (exclusive to WordPress.com and with so many brand new features, like integrating Google Photos, Pexels and Openverse, Marketing and Monetizing, and more and more) was cleaner, easier to navigate and, frankly, much easier on the eyes. Some folks here have only used that view since signing up. The original WP Admin interface is antiquated in comparison.
And today’s experience of looking for my site’s Privacy settings, only to find a little text link at the bottom of the General Settings WPAdmin dashboard which, when clicked, threw me out of the dashboard… not happy making! And all those white on white buttons with text on that secondary page? Visually challenging.
Oh, and it’s not that we won’t get used to the change, but we won’t like it and how it was done and we’ll remember that.
If it ain’t broke…Stop trying to fix it. PLEASE
I have been using WordPress.Com for close to 10 years now and I chose .com over .org for the ease of use and modern interface.
To call the from Calypso to WP Admin change an upgrade is disingenuous and insulting.
You could have been more upfront and said we do not want to maintain two systems and we are sticking to the old system.
I kept checking my plan to see of it has expired and been downgraded from Premium, which is exactly how it felt.
Going from a modern and clean look to an extremely boring and cluttered one is anything but innovative. I honestly don’t understand why the “core” dashboard wasn’t the one getting an update. Also, now I can no longer simply copy the URL of a page or post without opening the content. Going backwards. So sad.
Yes, please don’t delete the Classic Editor. I have a lot of trouble navigating the block editor.
I’ve said for years that these unnecessary updates are the result of engineers having to show they’re working. So, changes come about for productivity’s sake, to keep themselves relevant. Sadly, results (also) create unintended consequences, like the SNAFU I came across today. So, happiness engineers, please, please, please, go back and keep checking every little thing to ensure systems are working properly as the result of your innovations.
For me it looks like the one in the old days. Cluttered. I preferred Calypso interface as it was was more user friendly.
I love the new format. Great job…
Thanks to everyone defending the Classic Editor! I am right there with you. My blog is simple. My needs are simple. WordPress “improvements” continue to make it harder to do my work. WordPress folks: you have two categories of users at least — the tech-savvy, cutting-edge types who enjoy all your whiz-bang new features, and users who like consistency and resent seemingly random changes that do not help our work in any way. Please respect both types of users. Maybe keep a simplified version for the latter, and a spiffy version for the former? Thanks for your consideration.
I really don’t like the changes to the posts/pages list and can’t see why the changes have been made. I now have to scroll right through two pages of the list to get to the pages I use most often, whereas before they appeared near the top. And the font is so small, in comparison with the rest of the site, it is really difficult to read. Really unhelpful.
I think it’s great. All the help we can get, I’ll take. The easier it is, the better. Thanks!
The new format is cluttered, harder to see and does not look professional.
Remember “Less is More”
Classic: Yes. Block: No. Plus: When I look at my stats and see a new “Like”, it doesn’t show in the drop-down, so I have no indication of what was “Liked”.
I don’t “Like” that. At all.
a lot of the most recent updates feel so unnecessary.
I started on wordpress.com in 2009 but have been using wordpress.org since around 2010. WordPress has of course undergone massive change since that time.
Every time it changed, I’ve seen the same sort comments as the majority of comments here. Many people get very comfortable working with WordPress as it is when they start & just do not like it when it changes.
The switch to using the same interface for both wordpress.com & wordpress.org should allow for more concentrated & effective development by the wonderful people that help make WordPress such a useful tool for others to use.
